May 14, 2021 –
As Summer Split approaches, we are announcing the promotion of Kyle “Danny” Sakamaki (previously “Shiro”) from our Prodigies team to the LCS starting roster. Additionally, we welcome new talent Luke “TeamLuke” Wasikowski and Daniel “SkyTec” Soetikno to the Academy and Prodigies rosters, respectively.
“Entering our second season back in the LCS, we decided to expand our competitive priorities as a League of Legends franchise, and reform our approach to talent development,” said Greg Kim, Director of Esports. “To do this, we built out additional infrastructure in our coaching systems, re-tooled the direction of our Academy program, and expanded into the amateur scene with EG Prodigies.
“We were delighted to see both of our developmental squads make it to the top six in Proving Grounds, but more importantly, we saw our players make good progress in their growth. Heading into Summer, we look forward to continuing our evolution with some changes to our rosters.”
With these changes, we are moving on from Matthew “Deftly” Chen and Richard “Mist” Zi-Lan. We are thankful for the hard work both put in during their time at EG.
Due to visa complications, Quentin “Shoryu” Pereira will be moved to the Prodigies roster. Although we were able to operate with remote play in the spring, we are shifting to a development infrastructure that has all five Academy players located in LA. We are certain that he will continue to grow and learn as a part of Prodigies through the changes we have made through our streamlined coaching structure.
