EG Halo Roster and Coaching Update

May 21st, 2017 - Today, Evil Geniuses would like to announce a change in the Halo roster prior to the 2017 HCS Pro League summer season.

Effective immediately, Brett "Naded" Leonard will be retiring from competitive Halo to move on and focus on a new career path. Leonard had this to say about his decision to step down from the team:

  • Naded

"I've been debating for this past year (since HWC 2016 ended) if I want to continue competing in 4v4's or retire and move on to another chapter in life. I've been playing for 12 years so you can imagine why I'm feeling like this and after our recent Daytona tournament is when I realized what I wanted/needed to do. It is just time for me to move on."

Additionally, long time coach and manager Ryan Towey has decided to retire from competing with the team to focus his efforts towards management with the organization. Towey has been the coach of the EG Halo team since the HCS was formed in 2014 and has been a teammate of Lunchbox and Roy's for several years prior, dating back to Halo 3.

  • Towey

"It is a very bittersweet moment for me personally that this day has finally come. It's never easy to decide when the right time is to move on from something you're passionate about, but I feel very strongly that my attention and focus, for the good of both our team and Halo esports, would best be suited elsewhere. I will still be managing the team with a focus on content creation and video production, but as of today I will be retiring from coaching indefinitely. I want to thank every teammate I've had over the years for helping to shape my career into what it is today, especially Jason and Justin, and I'm very excited to be moving on to this next chapter of my life."

With Towey and Leonard stepping down, Josbe "Tapping Buttons" Valadez will be filling in as a substitute player on the roster while Tom "OGRE 2" Ryan will be returning to replace Towey as coach for all online and LAN tournaments. Ryan will be embracing his new role with new possibilities:

  • OGRE 2

"Coaching is definitely something I've been considering doing for a while now, but was settled in just as a streamer and analyst for the EG team. As soon as Towey mentioned he might not want to invest the time into coaching anymore, I knew it would be a great opportunity to stay directly involved in the competitive halo scene and one that I couldn't pass up. I'm actually super excited to coach this squad as I very much enjoy working with all 4 of the players we have right now.

As for Tapping Buttons...the Mexican myth, the legend. Anybody who has actually paid attention closely to talented Halo players outside of the pro league should already know who this guy is. In my honest opinion, he has the potential to be one of the best. Location and visa barriers have held him back from getting options on top AM teams in the past and working his way up through the ranks like normal Halo players would. Having an organization like EG to help overcome these limitations is amazing and I'm beyond excited for him to finally get his shot and to see what he is capable of in the pro league. He's going to be a player that everybody will want to watch."

Evil Geniuses fans will get the first opportunity to cheer on the new roster this Wednesday, May 24th, for the start of the new HCS Pro League season.
