Halo World Championship: Regional Redemption

Posted 19th of Feb 2016 by Devon Morrison

After a gold medal victory at the Aspen X-Games,  the team looks to secure a spot at the World Championships for Halo 5. Strong teams like Allegiance and CLG will be returning to compete against Evil Geniuses but they need to keep an eye out for newly formed rosters of EnVyUs and Winterfox.

Before the X-Games tournament, EG was struggling with placing first in the online qualifiers. CLG and Allegiance seemed to shut down the squad across the last few events and the team seemed frustrated with the lack of first place finishes. On top of the stress of under performance, Tony "Lethul" Campbell Jr. left the team with only a few weeks before the roster lock. EG scrambled and discovered a young rookie talent Hamza "Commonly" Abbaali to fill the missing position. Evil Geniuses crushed the initial opposition in the open bracket rounds of the X-Games. However, upon meeting CLG they were swept 3-0 in the series. Roy and the team clawed their way back through the semi finals to once again face CLG for the gold medal. In one of the closest series in Halo 5, EG emerged victorious over their rivals and ex-teammate. The glory of X-Games gold never tasted sweeter in grasp of the new iteration of the team.

The Halo World Championship Regional Qualifiers are EG's last chance at obtaining first place in the points position as well as secure their place at the World Championship.  In comparision to the X-Games, there will be many more teams at this event that coach Towey and his team need to watch out for. EnVyUs and Winterfox have been untested and look tenacious. These new teams have nothing to lose and want nothing more then to upset a top team early in the tournament. Additionally, Denial eSports has performed consistently well throughout the season and have beaten some of the top four teams quite handily. Allegiance and CLG will be Evil Geniuses most difficult opposition overall but they have been conquered before.
